PRACTICE GUIDELINES

  1. YOU SHOULD PRACTICE EVERY DAY IF ONLY FOR 15 OR 20 MINUTES.
  2. MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN TUNE BEFORE YOU BEGIN PLAYING.
  3. YOU SHOULD WARM UP BEFORE PRACTICE – STRETCH YOUR FINGERS AND PLAY SOMETHING EASY.
  4. YOU SHOULD PRACTICE SOME STRENGTH AND LEFT HAND MECHANICS EXERCISES EACH TIME YOU PLAY.
  5. YOU SHOULD PLAY SOMETHING EASY AT FIRST TO HELP YOU BUILD UP CONFIDENCE. THEN TAKE ON THE NEW MATERIAL OR MORE DIFFICULT LESSONS.
  6. DO NOT PLAY IF YOUR FINGERS, WRISTS OR HANDS HURT. STOP AND TAKE A FEW MINUTES BREAK.
  7. DO NOT LET YOURSELF GET FRUSTRATED IF YOU ARE NOT LEARNING A LESSON FAST ENOUGH. REMEMBER THAT YOU MUST MAKE MISTAKES IN ORDER TO LEARN.
  8. GO SLOWLY. TAKE YOUR TIME TO LEARN SLOWLY THEN SPEED UP AS YOU MASTER THE MATERIAL.
  9. IF YOU GET FRUSTRATED AND MAKE A LOT OF MISTAKES, REALIZE IT JUST MIGHT NOT BE A GOOD TIME TO PLAY RIGHT THEN. IT’S OK. DON’T FORCE IT. PUT DOWN YOUR GUITAR AND PICK IT UP LATER.
  10. If you do get frustrated and make a lot of mistakes, realize it just might not be a good time to play right then. It’s ok. Don’t force it. Put down your guitar/bass/drum stick and pick it up later.
  11. BE CREATIVE AND EXPERIMENT. AFTER YOU PRACTICE YOUR LESSON, DON’T STOP THERE. TRY SOMETHING NEW!
  12. THE MORE YOU PLAY, THE MORE YOU LEARN.
  13. HAVE FUN!
